iraqi used tanker helmets
Beginning before the Iran Iraq War, Iraq mechanized and armored formations were supplied with soft tanker helmets from a variety of Eastern Bloc countries. These helmets are surprisingly still seen in use today with the modern Iraqi army but on a smaller scale. This section will go over the different styles of soft tanker helmets used by the Iraqi forces.
russian 4 band black Winter tanker helmet
IRAN-IRAQ WAR:YES
DESERT STORM: YES
OIF: yes
The Russian 4 band tanker helmet was introduced in the 1960's to replace the 3 band tanker helmet which offered less head protection. The big difference between the 2 models is 1 more band at the top of the helmet. This band offered more protection as the 3 band helmet had gaps at the top that exposed the wearer's head. This particular Russian made tanker helmet is the winter version, and was captured in Desert Storm from an Iraqi POW by a member of the US 1st Cavalry Division. It exhibits arabic writing that translates to the rank, name, and unit of the wearer. It also has sheepskin fur lining inside for cold weather.

This Russian 4 band tanker helmet is the same type as the one above, except that it is the summer version, meaning it has a black cloth lining instead of sheepskin. It also has faded arabic writing inside the ear pieces and a bullet or shrapnel strike at the front. The helmet itself is dated 1982.
