saddam era dress style green uniforms
Although they are not primarily worn for dress occasions, I have categorized the Iraqi uniforms shown below as "dress style" to separate them from their counterparts that have a different design. It is a fact that these were worn by Iraqi army enlisted personnel along with officers, although they appear to have been worn by officers more often. By 2003, the green style of this uniform was worn more often than the tan one.
The uniforms shown here all have 2 pleated pockets and small exposed buttons. It is easy to see the style of these uniforms and why they are different than the other green ones explained in other reference pages on this site

iran - iraq war to desert storm (1980-1991)
IRAN-IRAQ WAR:most likely
DESERT STORM: YES
OIF: unknown
This good quality variant of the Iraqi dress style uniform is made out of green wool and features small blue buttons, pen pocket on the sleeve, and pants with a zipper closure. This particular uniform was worn by a Private in the Republican Guard and was captured in Desert Storm. Similar variants of this uniform were also seen during the Iran Iraq War.
IRAN-IRAQ WAR:yes
DESERT STORM: YES
OIF: very likely
The Iraqi two pocket uniform above first came into use during the Iran Iraq War, and sports the usual features of this style of uniform. However, the sewing thread used is tan, leaving a neat looking border around each pocket, epaulet, collar, and the sleeves. It is constructed out of a better quality, coarse fabric. Because this uniform was commonly captured in Desert Storm, it only makes sense that remaining stocks of them were used until the second coalition invasion of 2003.
OIF ONLY (1991-2003)
IRAN-IRAQ WAR:no
DESERT STORM: no
OIF: yes
While this style of Iraqi uniforms have been used since the 1980's this particular uniform is of awful quality, denoting its manufacture during the embargo era from post Desert Storm until Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. The uniform sports the usual pleated pockets with exposed buttons and a pen pocket on the sleeve, but is devoid of any manufacturing tags and is constructed from a very flimsy green fabric. The pants are matching and are buttoned up with a metal clasp at the top and lane belt loops to accommodate a pistol belt.
Early Popular Army
IRAN-IRAQ WAR:Yes
DESERT STORM: Likely
OIF: No
A relatively standard Iraqi shirt style with an earlier Confex Romania white tag contracted specifically for the Popular Army. Due to this, it likely dates from the very early 1980's. The uniform has a lighter green shade, non pleated pockets, and a sharp collar.
Ministry of Defense
IRAN-IRAQ WAR:YES
DESERT STORM: Yes
OIF: Likely
The uniform above is nearly the exact same style and color shade as the Popular Army shirt shown above, except that it has a Ministry of Interior tag.
